Tracked claim · Supported by evidence
The map is the largest in the series by a wide margin
Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut told Game Informer it is Rockstar’s biggest map “by some degree”, about twice GTA V’s. The square-mile figures in circulation are still fan estimates.

What changed
Until late September this entry said Rockstar had given no size at all. In Game Informer’s cover story, published September 29, a Rockstar studio head put it in words for the first time: the biggest map Rockstar has made, roughly double GTA V’s. That is why the claim has moved from unconfirmed to supported, and the label from Rumor to Reported — it comes from a named Rockstar source, relayed through the press rather than published by Rockstar itself.
What supports it
What supports it:
- In Game Informer’s September 2026 cover story, Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut calls Leonida the biggest map Rockstar has made “by some degree”, about twice the size of GTA V’s, as reported by VGC
- The game covers the state of Leonida — six named regions — not only Vice City
- Distinct environment types appear across the three trailers — dense urban, beach, wetland and rural
- Rockstar’s own framing describes a conspiracy “stretching across the state”
What contradicts it
What is still not established:
- No area figure: “about twice” is a comparison, not a measurement, and Rockstar has published no square-mile number
- Circulating numbers are derived from trailer geography, flight times and leaked material
- We have read the interview through VGC’s report of it; Game Informer’s full cover story is paywalled
- Size says nothing about how much of the map is open at the start
